U14 Tamar Lakes Championships 2014
U14 Plate Winners
Back Row: L-R: Sam, Lucus, Jess, Nathan, Charlotte
Front Row: L -R: Debbie (coach & cox), Courtney.
At this event our U14's won the Plate competition at the CPGA Championships held at Tamar Lakes.
We only formed our Junior section in June 2012 so to win a plate two years later was a brilliant achievement. All the crew were complete novices and had completed their first competitive season in 2013 with only an U14 crew, winning two event trophies.
In 2014 some of the previous years U14's moved up to U16 age group. The U16's crew also had a massive achievement this year by reaching the final of the CPGA championships at Newquay in August.
The juniors train on a Friday after school U14's @ 5pm and U16's @ 6pm at Newlyn harbour. The club always welcome children to come and have a go. Starting age is around 11 but as children grow differently the club set a presidency of them being able to manage/handle an oar by lifting and dropping the oar in & out of the pins.
For further details please contact Shirley Pitts our junior coordinator on the email link below.

We are very proud of our Juniors - Time for an Update
PENDEEN YOUNGSTERS TRIUMPH AT ROCK 2013
Fridays U14 @ 5pm and U16 @ 6pm.
Friday afternoon rowing has now begun to establish itself again, apart from one day with particularly bad weather, when we decided to cancel, and we look forward to more of last year's juniors returning. A number of juniors have rowed through the winter on Sundays, which has given them time to strengthen their stroke, so we will be looking out for a good result at our race meeting. As Sunday rowing has been well attended, we would like to invite any juniors who have already rowed on Friday to come along for more practice at these social rowing sessions if they wish. It is important to remember that during the summer Friday, as stated above, is the 'Training' session and should therefore be given priority, but if for any reason this time is difficult please talk to a member of the club.
If you have any questions or queries please use the email facility on this page to contact the club.
SAFEGUARDING @ Pendeen gig Club
Every person who takes part in gig rowing has the right to do so in a safe and enjoyable environment, free from judgment and abuse. The abuse of children, young people and the vulnerable can occur in any environment e.g. home, school and sports clubs. People the child know and trusts commit the majority of child abuse. Children also disclose abuse to people they know and trust. This could be a member of our club. Having an awareness of following good safeguarding procedures applies to all rowers, coaches, volunteers and anyone involved in rowing within PPGC. All of these people have a duty of care to safeguard the welfare of children and prevent their abuse.
The Welfare Officer is expected to attend a Safeguarding Awareness course when they commence their term of office. This will be refreshed within the CPGA guidelines of every 3 years.
If you have any concerns regarding safeguarding please approach the welfare officer or any appropriate adult within the club, all matter will be dealt with confidentially, please use the email link below.
Our safeguarding policy is available under the club policies tab.
