Ellie Dash - British Rowing Performance Talent Programme

So we have been keeping a bit of a secret, until it was all properly in place, but now we can proudly announce that Ellie has been invited by British Rowing to join the Performance Talent Programme. This means Ellie and her coaches will receive further support and guidance from the British Rowing Performance Talent team.

Ellie has been on a phenomenal journey over the last few years, she joined Pendeen Pilot Gig Club in May 2016, at the age of 12 and instantly loved rowing. Shirley Pitts of Pendeen Gig Club set up an indoor rowing club at Mount's Bay School and Ellie won the County and Regional gold medals in her age group.

In March 2017 , Kevin Sellar of Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club invited Ellie to attend the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship in London with Plymouth Schools Partnership, Ellie won a bronze medal in her Individual age group and Gold in the Team Relay. Ellie won every County and regional event for the next indoor rowing season, and went to NJIRC with Plymouth again in March 2018, here she won a Silver medal in her Individual age group and the Team Relay won Gold, setting a new distance record for the event!.

In July 2018 we had an email from British Rowing, inviting Ellie to represent England South at the National School Games Final 2018 @ Loughborough University in August.

So off she went, and this time Ellie won Gold in her Individual event and Gold in the Tier 1 relay.

In Dec 2018 Ellie entered the British Rowing Indoor Championships at the Velodrome in London, again she won Gold in her Individual event, and in March 2019 Ellie returned to NJIRC with Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club at The Copper Box, London and won Gold in her Individual event and was in the Gold winning Boat Race Female crew!

Along the way Ellie has received phenomenal support and encouragement from her family, friends, school, everyone at Pendeen Pilot Gig Club and Plymouth Amateur Rowing Club & the gig rowing community as a whole .

She has also been lucky enough to meet and receive support and advice from Dame Katherine Grainger, Helen Glover, Frances Houghton and Peter Reed, all multiple Olympic GB rowers and medallists.

It's amazing watching Ellie's journey unfold, we are all very proud of her determination and seemingly never-ending love for exercise! Thank you everyone for all you do to help Ellie pursue her dreams.

Recently Ellie has also been accepted onto the Cornwall Talented Athletes Scheme, which will enable her to follow her training programme from British Rowing year round. The staff at Penzance Leisure Centre have been so welcoming and supportive, and the facilities are amazing!

Good Times Although the club is competitive we also enjoy our rowing. Going out for a social row when the sun is shinning and the water is calm on a lovely summers day, heading towards Mousehole for a picnic and a pint is only one way the club socialises, come along to find out more, your first session is free.
We all enjoy a bit of banter in the boat, that's what makes rowing such an enjoyable sport but when it comes to racing we all have our own way of dealing with the nerves, but as the old saying goes......
Cornwall and South Devon has some beautiful idyllic coves tucked away in places you may never go to unless you were involved in gig rowing. Spend a day exploring some lovely villages, soaking up the atmosphere of race days, then comes the time for you to give your all for your cox & crew.
The club has, for the past few years, travelled to London to take part in one of the great occasions for all types of sea worthy vessels powered only by rowers. The London River Race takes place every year and hundreds of different boats from Cornish Gigs to Dragon Boats row the 22miles from Richmond to Twickenham its a fantastic event, if you get the chance to go....do it!

Training Boats at Newlyn

Preparing the boats for training. This is the location of our two plastic training gigs. They are permanently moored in Newlyn harbour which is a great advantage over most Cornish clubs, most clubs find themselves having to launch off a beach to train, that's if the weather and sea conditions allow. We merely step off the pontoon into the boat and start to row. If you don't believe me come along to find out, your first session is free.

Men's IoS 2011

The men enjoying the final day on the Isles of Scilly. Each year Pendeen send crews to the world gig championships on the Isles of Scilly. This is the biggest gathering of gig boats that you will ever see. Around 120 boats take part in the championships travelling from all over the country and from overseas. The championships is a very special occasion with a unique atmosphere, the racing is amazing and the commerardary unrivalled, a truly wondrous spectacle not be to missed.

Race for Life

Every year hundreds of ladies dress in pink and take part in the Race for Life raising much needed funds & awareness for Cancer Research UK. This year, 2014, some of Pendeen ladies took part, not only did they represent the club but they ran their hearts out for a great cause.

If you would like to donate to help the ladies raise funds for such a worthy cause please use the email facility at the bottom of this page.

WELL DONE LADIES YOU DID US PROUD Smile

First Race for Geevor 2014

Traditionally Pendeen send crews up to the first event of the season the 3RR, held by Caradon Gig Club @ Saltash. This year was no exception, a Men's & Ladies crew attended this race, with another 52 boats lined up, clean & shining after a good winters maintenance. This year our new racing gig "Geevor" lined up for her first race. The ladies managed to get a crew together and rowed a time of 1hr 15mins. The men also excelled coming in 31st out of 52, a great start to this season in a time of 50mins.

If your interested in rowing for Pendeen please use the email facility below to contact us or simply turn up on a Sunday morning @ 10am, Newlyn Harbour by the RNLI office. Your first row is FREE.
